Callaway Golf announced that K.J. Choi has officially joined the team of Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professionals. Choi will continue to use Callaway Golf balls as he plays on the PGA Tour and around the world. Choi won twice on the PGA Tour last year using the CTU 30 Red golf ball.
Choi, 32, is playing his fourth season on the PGA Tour. The South Korean native experienced a breakthrough year in 2002 after switching to the CTU 30 Red golf ball, winning the Compaq Classic of New Orleans and the Tampa Bay Classic while earning more than US$2 million. Choi became the first South Korean to win on the PGA Tour, and he also has four international victories to his credit.
Choi started the 2003 PGA Tour season by posting a tie for second at the Mercedes Championships, where he used the CTU 30 Red golf ball to shoot a tournament-record 62 in the third round. He currently stands sixth on the PGA Tour money list for this year.
“There are a lot of great features about the Callaway golf ball,” said Choi. “The distance is superb, the ball has great penetration in the wind and when the ball hits the green it has a good bite which gives me the confidence that I can stick it to the pin whether I am approaching from the fairway, chipping around the green or hitting it out from a bunker. I am very happy to be a part of the Callaway Golf Ball team.”
