Watson to take on European Seniors field

IN: News | European Seniors | Senior British Open (2002) | Preview | by Bruce Young | 21 Jul 2002

Tom Watson heads a field that includes the winners of twenty majors although it would be fair to say that those twenty are shared by just four players. Gary Player, Tony Jacklin and Bob Charles are also in the field. 66 year old Charles very nearly won this event last year when beaten by Australian Ian Stanley at the first extra hole of a playoff. Charles is in very good form of late with a fifth place at a recent event in the US with Watson second at the recent US Seniors Open.

Australians, in addition to Stanley, in the line up at present include Bob Shearer, Noel Ratcliffe, David Good, Terry Gale, Brian Jones along with New Zealanders Simon Owen and Barry Vivian.

The event is being played at one of the great British seaside courses namely Royal County Down in Northern Ireland.
