France's Patricia Meunier Lebouc has taken the early lead in the first round of the $AUD800,000 ANZ Ladies Masters, the opening event of the 2003 European Ladies Tour. Meunier Lebouc is no stranger to success on the Tour, having won the State Farm Classic late last year on the LPGA Tour plus she has won five tournaments on the European Ladies tour.
Meunier Lebouc fired a -6 (66) at the Royal Pines Resort on Queensland's Gold Coast to close the day one stroke in front of two-time Masters ('93-'94) champion Laura Davies and Michelle Ellis. Davies missed a 2-metre putt on her final hole to deny herself the early clubhouse lead.
Karrie Webb, who is looking to add to her already impressive five Masters titles, sits in equal 4th place at -4 (68) alongside Rebecca Stevenson and Alison Munt.
American star Laura Diaz opened her account with a -3 (69), along with Mexico's Lorena Ochoa and American Natalia Gulbis. They sit in a nine-way tie for 7th place towards the end of day one.
2002 Rookie of the year, Beth Bauer had a disappointing start to her Masters campaign and posted an opening round of 1 (73).
The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Australian Ladies Tour (ALPG) and the European Ladies Tour.
