The PGA of Australia announced today that the world number eight will return to the site of his memorable maiden triumph on home soil when he lines up at the Hyatt Regency Coolum for the final event on the Australasian Tour and OneAsia Super Series calendars for 2009.
The 2006 US Open Champion and winner of three World Golf Championship events created headlines last year when he held off playing partner Mathew Goggin in a tense back-nine showdown to claim the title by a single shot in front of a final day record crowd.
"Geoff's victory last year was history making as his first in Australia and to have his name on the Joe Kirkwood Cup was as pleasing to us as it was to him," said Max Garske, CEO of the PGA of Australia.
"Geoff was a deservedly popular champion and we are delighted that he will be back again to defend his title and lead the Aussie charge."
Ogilvy will line up at Coolum for the third time and is looking forward to finishing 2009 the same way he started. He won the season opening Mercedes Benz Championship on the US Tour and is keen to return to Coolum and the event that heralded his home victory.
"I'm really looking forward to coming back home and playing at the PGA Championship," said Ogilvy.
"My family loves coming to Coolum. The tournament atmosphere is fun and relaxed and it obviously holds very special memories for me as the place where I won my first event as a professional in Australia."
Ogilvy's confirmation comes just a week after the PGA of Australia announced that crowd favourite John Daly will also return to Coolum in 2009.
The 2009 Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola will be played at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland's Sunshine Coast from December 10-13.
