The 23 year old, who shares the lead in the weather disrupted South Georgia Classic in Valdosta in Georgia, has already won twice on the Web.Com Tour this season and if he can win again this week then he will become a PGA Tour member under the Battlefield Promotion category.
That category earns any three time winner on the Web.Com Tour in any one season the right to play the PGA Tour for the remainder of the year and the following season and Ortiz who has already won this season in Panama and Mexico is on the verge of just that.
Ortiz is in his rookie season on the Web.Com Tour having completed his studies at the University of North Texas last year. He already has a huge lead in the money list this season and appears on track for a hugely successful career.
He leads along with American Max Homa with Andrew Putnam two shots further back.
There are however a lot of players yet to finish round two which is scheduled to recommence on Saturday morning after darkness eventually halted play.
The leading Australians at present are Cameron Percy and Aron Price who have both completed their rounds and are in a share of 15th position with both Peter Lonard and Nathan Green appearing as if they will make the cut when round two is completed.
