According to those at the World Golf Ranking, Adam Scott needs only to finish inside the top 16 at this week's Players Championship to become the World Number one for the first time.

In a release sent out today the possibilities for those hoping to claim Tiger Wood's mantle at the Players Championship this weekend are that Scott needs to finish inside the top 16, Henrik Stenson needs a top 6, Bubba Watson needs to be second alone or better and Matt Kuchar would get there with a win.

The permutations make an already exciting week even more so as for each of those involved they would become the world number one for the very first time if any of those outcomes were to come to fruition.
