Blackheath has improved over recent years and whilst this is a summer review, the harsh winters in this area make it unfair to rate between May- September.

That said, I played here in February and the

course was in its best condition from memory. The greens, surrounds, bunkering and gardens were all immaculate.

Credit to green staff !!

I have always enjoyed my trips to Blackheath as it is by far the best golf course in the mountains, especially in the past 2 years where the greens have become the rival to many of the better Sydney courses. With the recent documented struggles of some courses, the closure of Katoomba (I never really liked that course anyway), the dry, hot summer and the recent comment on this website, I was very interested to see how Blackheath was fairing. The answer, very well indeed. We were informed that over the past 2 months the fairways had undergone an extensive renovation with all weeds sprayed out, a heavy oversow of new seed and a fertilise. The benefits of this are now starting to show big time. Under the current drought like conditions we are suffering I doubt anyone within cooee would have half the amount of grass on their fairways that Blackheath does. Give it another month or so and they will be in phenomenal condition. The greens, as always, were exceptional. They roll true and have a constant and solid pace all the way round the course. Finding out after we finished that the course staff numbers 3 makes things even more impressive. Added to the condition of the course and the great scenery is the fantastic food from the clubhouse bistro. As far as a day out for golf goes, you will be hard pressed to find better!

Played in Dec 2013 after a 6 year absence from the course. I heard that like a lot of Blue Mountain courses Blackheath was feeling the pinch financially. Whilst the greens are still in good shape the tees and fairways were in pretty rough condition (these were the best in mountains years ago).

More information on course rating. The men have three courses rated. Black (Back)60.0, Blue (Intermediate) 68.4, White (Forward) 67.6. Each has par 69. The Black course is played Saturdays and major events. The Blue is played mid-week. The White not regularly played but has forward tees on the water-carry holes 16,17 and 18 and a few more which will be useful for dealing with starting players and cadets and the old guys whose strength has really waned. The women have two rated courses. Red (back) 72.2 Yellow (forward) 70.1. Par both courses is 70. The Yellow course is getting a workout mid-week and adds some variety as well as having a rating close to the par. Yellow course will be good for those who have trouble with water-carries particularly new golfers and cadets. It will be interesting to see he slope ratings due and 2013 or early 2014

This is the best course in the Blue Mountains. Beautiful trees, interesting layout. The closing holes are especially memorable.
