Played this course after a long dry summer. The fairways were lush, the greens were hard to read as they were inconsistent & the rough was bone dry as you would expect. A nice course, but nothing overly special. I think that for a town the size of Maryborough, I expected a bit more.

i played this course and it is a boggy mess at best,grass is dying and i noticed there is little work done on the course,the place looks very neglected,when i hit the ball in the rough i lost a few balls for it wasnt cut and all the low hanging limbs does not allow you to play the ball at all so for a average golfer like myself it is very poorly looked after,there is sticks everywhere in the rough and i did damage one of my irons for there was a thick stick under the grass ,after looking at the ground after that there is alot of that there so beware or you may have a very costly day.the layout has alot of potential but its needs alot of work and when paying my green fees the staff could be alot more friendly and i had to wait a good 5 minutes to be served.having played other courses in the area i would go elsewhere for now and what is up with the drains threw the course and along one of the holes there ,very stupid design and not even pegged as a hazard so after finishing my round i found out you get a free drop out of them.....never seen that before.people here seem friendly but the course really needs alot of work....i feel i wasted my money for i did not enjoy the place at all,very wet feet and tired

Often visit reli's in Dunolly and make sure I get a round at Maryborough every time I do. A great little course which I found to be green all year round in some of the harshest land in Victoria. A credit to the grounds staff for that. The find the front 9 a lot more fun than the back. But saying that, I think the last 2 holes are a great finish to a great round. The people are friendly and the beer is cold!

Time for an update established in the 1910s, Maryborough now measures 5639m Par 70 with four par 3s ranging from 118-192m, twelve par 4s ranging from 312-365m and two par 5s ranging from 450-465m. Course has well-conditioned Santa Ana couch grass fairways and teebeds interspersed in a tree-lined layout. The course lies on a rocky-quartz base with a thin covering of sand for the fairways. There is red clay/dirt and sand with minimal grass coverage under the tree-line.The medium-sized penncross bent grass greens are mostly 15-25m long with the smallest greens at 7, 10 & 11. In terms of hazards, there are 7 unbunkered holes (at 4, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15 & 17) with a total of 23 bunkers on the course. There is a pond beside the 4th green and some storage ponds beside the 17th & 18th which are used to irrigate the 2 bowling greens. The club uses recycled town effluent water to irrigate the course. Holes worthy of mention include: the 315m straight 3rd (index 11) which plays gently downhill to a fairway bunker 190m off the tee on the right to a well-bunkered green with 3 bunkers; the 364m straight 4th (index 1) with a small red-staked pond 5-10m right of the 20m long x 10m wide bunkerless green; the 192m 17th (index 8) with the bunkerless green slightly below the tee guarded by a red-staked pond 10m right of the 20m long x 8m wide green; and the 146m 18th (index 17) is also played gently downhill to the green which is guarded by 2 bunkers. The par 3s (at 2, 6, 17 & 18) vary in slight topographical elevation from tee to green and all but the 17th are bunkered. The pick of the Par 3s is the 17th. The shortish par 5s (at 1 & 12) play similar in length and both play gently downhill, with the 1st having good greenside bunkering, whilst the 12th has good fairway bunkering. There are some new Santa Ana couch grass tees at 13, 16 & 18 which will lengthen the course a little. The layout is stretch at times: as there are a few 150m walks back the fairways to reach the 7th & 10 tees with a few other shorter walks 100m back down the fairways to stretch out this Par 70 layout. Overall, the Par 70 layout is still on the short side but compared to other Par 70 layouts in the Goldfields region, Maryborough is surprisingly one of the longer par 70 layouts. Most holes are straight with only 6 greens not visible from the tee mound. There are no long Par 3s greater than 195m and no long Par 4s greater than 370m on the course, but there is a new 13th tee which will make the 13th approximately 380-390m long. Maryborough is a town on the Pyrenees Highway of around 8000 people approximately 250m above sea level. Played here 21/10/2012 with $20 green fees. Had a great time at Maryborough. Only got the back 9 in but was very good considering the drought. Smallish greens, that were fairly hard but not too fast. The fairways were also firm, but the new grass looks to be getting a good hold. Two of us played, we hired a cart, all for a grand total of $38, Absolute bargin.

Loved this course. Carved out of the natural bush, this course is a real delight to both play and walk. Fortunately using reclaimed water, as the town is on severe restrictions, the fairways are reasonably good although a little patchy in places, not at all the fault of the club. Fairly narrow fairways, a challenge to play straight. Good and true greens. Very friendly staff. If your in the area, I highly recommend this course.
